Poker Bluffing Online: Techniques to Outsmart Your Opponents
Learn all about observing patterns, knowing just how to time your bluffs perfectly, and how to build your confidence with bluffing. After all, every Poker player knows that a great bluffing strategy is the difference between winning and folding! The only thing standing between you and the pot is being able to outsmart everyone else.
This article will help you develop a bluffing strategy that even the most famous Poker players would be jealous of!
Pay Close Attention to Your Opponents
Regardless of if you know the people at the table or not, you need to pay close attention to how they’re behaving during the game.We all have tells and finding your opponents’ can help you leverage the entire game. Have they raised their eyebrow every time they had a good hand? Yawned just before they bluffed in each previous round? Paying attention to these little things will make it easy to know each time they’re bluffing.
Things are a bit trickier when you’re playing online since you usually can’t see the rest of the players. But, betting patterns never lie! Take a look at how someone bets when they have a weak hand vs when they have a strong one. How do they respond to the pressure at the table? Do they immediately call or add to the pot? Then, bide your time and use this info to make them bet on something they don’t even have and take all the glory!
Know When to Bluff
The trickiest thing about bluffing isn’t the bluff itself, but when to time it. If you do it too often, people will stop believing you. If you do it once in a blue moon, it simply won’t be effective. And more than that, if you don’t do it at the right times during the game, there’s no point to bluffing at all. So when should you bluff?
- Pre-flop: If you want to win the blinds, it may pay off to bluff early in the game. This tip is best reserved for a table with no aggressive players, otherwise it’s not likely to work.
- Post-flop: When there are no pairs and no high cards after a flop, someone might want to check you if you’re in a late position. Since everyone is more likely to fold at this point, it’s the best time to bluff and keep your opponents guessing.
- Low Paired Board: A low paired board is known to make everyone at the table feel a little tense. There are few pairs on the board and the remaining cards are either discarded or in the deck. It’s the perfect opportunity to bluff!
Start Small & Keep it Cool
These are two of the most important tips for a successful bluff, especially if you don’t have much experience with bluffing in general. You’ll want to test your skills and new strategy on a small pot, so that you don’t risk losing much if things don’t go as planned.
And remember how we said everyone has a tell? That includes you! So, keep your emotions in check, especially if your bluff is successful. If you don’t, others will easily figure out when you were bluffing and you won’t have the same success in the future.
